Abstract

To ulteriorly improve the effect of motion estimation and compensation, this paper proposed an adaptive motion estimation algorithm based on redundant discrete wavelet transformation(RDWT). It proposed the method of calculating adaptive block matching criterion and adaptive threshold for dividing motion degree of blocks. The static blocks were not done motion estimation; only the motion blocks were done motion estimation and compensation using the adaptive method for starting point prediction and adaptive search algorithm. The result of experiment indicates that this method can maintain a higher peak signal to noise ratio and improve motion estimation efficiency, and the subjective quality of reconstructed image is good. This approach has a remarkable performance compared with the existing motion estimation algorithm in RDWT domain.
