Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate the effects of L-carnitine supplements on population growth, total lipids and soluble protein in freshwater micro-algae Chlorella vulgaris. Algae were cultured with SE formulations and enriched by 3 levels of L-carnitine: 0, 5 and 50 mg/L for 7 days. The results showed that L-camitine supplements significantly ( P < 0.05) affected the population growth of enriched algae and two levels of L-camitine enrichment (5, 50 mg/L) produced different responses on population growth compared with the control during culture period. Total lipids content was significantly ( P < 0.05) lower and soluble protein content was significantly ( P < 0.05) higher in 50 mg/L L-camitine enriched group than that in the other 2 groups. The results suggest that L-camitine enrichment might affect population growth and biochemical composition in freshwater micro-algae Chlorella vulgaris in a direct or indirect way.关键词
