Association study between polymorphism of TNFα-308A and schizophrenia

Abstract
Objective To analyze the association between the polymorphism of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) gene promoter G308A and schizophrenia.Methods Fifty seven Han patients with schizophrenia and 30 healthy controls were recruited in this study.TNFα genotypes at G308A were detected by polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR- RFLP), and serum TNFα levels were measured by enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).At the same time, patients were evaluated clinically by the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scales (PANSS).Results There were no significant differences in genotype or allelic distribution ofFα - 308A between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls (P＞0.05), and also no statistical difference in PANNS scores among all genotypes (P＞0.05).There were no differences in serum TNFα levels between patients and healthy controls [(123.6± 56.2)pg/mlvs (103.2± 66.7)pg/ml, P＞0.05], and also no differences in distribution of genotypes between two groups (P＞0.05).Conclusion The polymorphism of TNFα - G308A and the serum TNFα levels are not related to schizophrenia or its syndrome scores.关键词
