Fatigue Behavior of Crankshaft Material 48MnV Steel with/without a 3Cr13 Arc Spraying Coating

Abstract
When automotive engines are remanufactured the use of electric arc spraying technique to repair the crankshafts has some potential applications and value. This paper studied the fatigue behaviors of crankshaft material 48MnV steel with/without an arc sprayed 3Cr13 coating. Standard specimens of 48MnV steel and the specimens with different thickness of the coatings are used for tensile and fatigue test. The fatigue limit is calculated and compared, and the fracture was analyzed. It is found that the fatigue performance of 48MnV steel substrate with a 3Cr13 arc spray coating is substantially reduced in the axial load. The thicker the coating, the worse the fatigue performance, and the lower the fatigue limit. Fatigue performance degradation is mainly due to the lower bonding strength and residual aluminum oxide sandblastings which cause the fatigue crack initiation.关键词
