Survey on Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome Types in 471 Patients with Essential Hypertension
摘要
Abstract
Objective To investigate into the distribution regularity of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome types in patients with essential hypertension (EH). Methods Patients with mild to medium EH were selected as subjects, excluding those taking medicine within 2 weeks and those with secondary hypertension. A standardized scale of TCM syndrome was designed to differentiate the syndrome types of the selected EH patients. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) , diastolic blood pressure (DBP) , height, body mass, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and blood lipids were determined. The Multiple Linear Regression was employed to explore the relation between TCM syndrome types and blood pressure, sex, age, body mass index (BMI), FPG and blood lipids. Results A total of 471 EH patients were included. The TCM syndrome types could not be differentiated in 94 patients (accounting for 20. 0%) because of mild symptoms. Of the four TCM syndrome types, phlegm-dampness accumulation type ranked first in 154 patients (accounting for 32. 7%) , liver-fire overabundance type ranked second in 108 patients (accounting for 20. 9%) , yin defiaency and yang excess type ranked third in 70 patients (accounting for 14. 9%) , yin and yang deficiency type ranked last in 45 patients (accounting for 9. 6%). Liver-fire overabundance type was common in male patients, while yin deficiency and yang excess type, and phlegm-dampness accumulation type was common in female patients. There were significant differences in age, SBP, DBP, FPG among four TCM syndrome types. The levels of above-mentioned indicators increased orderly in liver-fire abundance type, yin deficiency and yang excess type, phlegm-dampness accumulation type, and yin and yang deficiency type. The levels of BMI, total cholesterol, and triglyceride increased significantly in patients with phlegm-dampness accumulation type compared with those in unidentified syndrome type. Conclusion Phlegm-dampness accumulation syndrome is the most common type, and yin and yang deficiency syndrome is the least type in patients with mild to medium EH. There are differences in age, blood pressure, blood lipids, and FPG in different TCM syndrome types.关键词
