Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of pr imary simultaneous lip and nose repair in patients with complete unilateral cleft lip. Methods The sample consisted of fifty-one individuals ( thirty males and twenty-one females) with complete unilateral cleft lip with a mean age of eight months. A retrospective review of the fifty-one cases was conducted. We focus on the main role of the primary surgery-correction of the nasal deformity at the same time of lip repair in infancy. The patients were followed up for thirty-six months. Results All fifty-one cases showed satisfactory nasal shapes and symmetry. The surgery did not influence subsequent growth or development of the nose in the following years. Conclusions It was demonstrated that one-staged correction of nasal deformity and unilateral complete cleft lip in infancy is a good procedure. It can significantly improve nasal appearance. Long-term assessments need to be performed to find the final outcomes.关键词
