Elastic restrained distortional buckling of I-steel-concrete composite beams

Abstract
As a special buckling mode, restrained distortional buckling ( RDB) is different from overall buckling and distortional buckling, and usually occurs in the negative moment region of the composite beams.The present paper investigates the elastic RDB of composite beams based on the elastically supported column ( ESC) method.Firstly, Svensson' s ESC model is properly improved by including the participation of the web as part of the buckling column, and two kinds of theoretical expressions for the improved ESC subjected to a varying axial force are derived.Then, the solution precision of several ESC methods for the RDB problem is discussed, based on the finite element method.The results show that ESC subjected to negative uniform moment or triangular moment, have a good agreement with FEM results, but ESC is not suitable for the cases of nonlinear moment distribution.An equivalent moment assumption is first introduced and proved suitable for the RDB problem.A critical length formula of equivalent moment assumption for the RDB problem is proposed.Furthermore, a three-step simplified method is proposed and can be used for the elastic RDB problem of continuous composite beams.关键词
