Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the antibacterial activities of 23 kinds of Chinese herbal medicine extracts against Streptococcus pneumoniae (SPN) in vitro. METHODS: The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 23 kinds of Chinese herbal medicine extract were determined by 96-well tissue culture microplates and smear method. The diameter of inhibition zone was compared using the Kirby-Baueer disc diffusion. RESULTS: 11 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines had antibacterial activities on SPN, such as Panax notoginseng, Chaenomeles speciosa, Scutellaria baicalensis. The ethanol extracts of P notoginseng and C. speciosa had the strongest antibacterial activities. The MIC, MBC of them were 1: 16,1: 8 and 1: 8, 1: 4. The diameter of inhibition zone was 15 mm. CONCLUSION: The ethanol extracts of P. notoginseng and C. speciosa have significant antibacterial effects.关键词
