Development of the 3 - D Magnetic Flux Leakage Measurement Platform

Abstract
Magnetic Flux leakage (MFL) testing technology is widely used to detect the corrosion defects of the oil and gas pipelines on - line. The traditional 1 - D MFL testing technology is usually employed to measure the leaked field in the direction of radius and can only characterize the depth of the defect. For arbitrary - shaped defects, it is ineffective. To characterize the irregular defects and enhance the capability of inspection, the 3 - D MFL testing technology is required. There is substantive signal to be sampled and processed in the 3 - D MFL measurement system, and hence the system is relatively complicated. In this paper, we present a 3 - D MFL measurement platform, in whicha significantly simplified scheme of data acquisition is proposed. In the platform, the 3 - axis MFL signal is sampled, transmitted and stored via the RS -485 bus at high speed, and the baud rate of the bus is up to 6. 125Mbps. The experimental results show that the proposed platform is efficient in the 3 - D MFL data acquisition, and enhance the capability of inspection.关键词
