Abstract

In this paper, flocculation and settlement were used to deal with insoluble SiO2 matters in nitric acid and the chemical structure of insoluble matters(SiO2) was characterized with FTIR spectra. By comparing the average settling rates of insoluble matters, experimental phenomenan and definitions of solid-liquid interface, the mechanisms of flocculation and settlement of coagulant(T8), organic flocculants(G1, G2 and G3) and composite flocculants(T8/G1, T8/G2 and T8/G3) were investigated and perfect flocculant with its optimum dosage was determined.The results show that the surfaces of insoluble matters in nitric acid have hydroxyl group and positive charge. The settling rate of insoluble matters is accelerated by T8 via increasing their volume, by contrast, G1 or G2 or G3 via bridging adsorption and the additive amount of Gl, G2,G3 has an optimum dosage separately. The favorite composite flocculant is T8/G1, when dealing with the suspension of insoluble matters with the concentration of 70 g/L, the optimum dosage is T8 600 mg/L, G1 15 mg/L, under these conditions the average settling rate reaches 8. 7 mm/min.
