Abstract

By analvzing the characteristics of erosion-deposition variation and channel shrinkage in the tail reaches of Yellow River estuary since the tail reaches of Yellow River estuary changed to Qingshuigou flow path in 1976, the relationship between the bankfull discharge at Lijin station and the incident runoff and sediment as well as the extension of river length was studied. The results show that the bankfull discharge in tail reaches of Yellow River estuary relates with the runoff volume, flood peak discharge, coefficient of water and sediment, channel length and preceding bed-channel conditions. The quantitative relationship among the water volume, the peak discharge and the coefficient of the water and the sediment load for the bankfuil discharge of 4000m3/s as well as the restriction conditions for the channel length is proposed. It may provide a reference for the integrated management of tail reaches.
