Growth and biomass of Tsuga chinensis var. tchekiangensis in a natural forest in Guangze, Fujian, China

摘要

Abstract

Growth processes and biomass of Tsuga chinensis var. tchekiangensis in a natural forest in Guangze, Fujian, China were studied. The results showed that average tree height, diameter at breast height (DBH) and tree volume were 11.8 m, 22.5 em and 0.251 67 m3·stem-1, respectively, for the 46-year-old T. chinensis trees in the natural forest. The T. chinensis trees grew slowly at early stage and tree height were only 10.78 m at l0 years old. Current annual increment of trre height, DBH and tree volume were highest at 20, 42 and 46 year old, respectively, and were 0.95 m·a-1, 0.81 ern·a-1 and 0.004 87 m3 ·a-1, respectively. The 46-year-old T. chinens/s trees did not reached their volume quantitative maturity age. The tree biomass of the 46-year-old T. chinensis trees were 223.223 kg· stem-1. Biomass of different components in the tree were in the order of stem > root > branch > twig and leaf > bark, and the ratio of above-sround to under-ground biomass was 3.228: 1.
