Abstract

Considering the shortcomings in the delayed response model for bankfull discharges, the modified model is developed in two aspects: 1 ) Improving the model's framework, which includes adjusting the effective weight of previous year's water and sediment conditions and deducing the model equation in which β is variational in different years. 2 ) Modifying the model's parameters Qe and β by considering the influence of peak discharge on Qe and the influence of incoming water discharge in the flood season onβ. The applicability of the modified model is tested based on the observed data at Huayuankou, Gaocun, Sunkou, Aishan and Lijin stations on the Lower Yellow River. The result indicates that the modified model has a higher accuracy compared with the original one.
