Abstract
Objective Balint Group could improve the physician's awareness of psychological problem of patient and the physician-patient relationship.Balint Group also could help the physician to overcome occupational burnout.Methods From Sept.2009 to Nov.2010, 56 courses of Balint Group activity were held in two general hospitals,Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University and Ruian People's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical College.The participants involved 179 physicians of various levels (residents, attending physicians, associate professors and professors) from various departments (internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, general practice, oncology, emergency, pathology).In Zhongshan Hospital the participants were mostly attending physicians engaging in teaching activity, and in Ruian People's Hospital mostly were residents.Results Practice of Balint Group activity could help the physician to understand patient's psychosocial problem and improve the communication skill; 73.8％ of the physicians could identify patient's psychological problem, discuss the disease with patients and their families directly, and provide emotional support to them; 78.6％ of the physicians comprehended their roles and responsibilities in physician-patient relationship; 57.1％ of the physicians felt that they could carry out a satisfactory clinical interview;, 64.3％ of the physicians could accomplish the crisis intervention; 54.8 ％of the physicians felt that through the training they could work with the "hard to treat with" patients and their families;and 83.0％ of the physicians felt that through the practice of Balint Group they could recognize their own emotional stress and to deal with the burnout.Conclusions Through practice of Balint Group, physicians in general hospital could improve their awareness of patient's psycho-social problem, improve their ability to deal with the physician-patient relationship, recognize and solve their own emotional stress and improve their communication skill.关键词
