Abstract
Objective To explore a simple, effective therapy in the prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced phlebitis which medical staff and patients are all willing to use. Methods 81 patients who received chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, 5-fluorouracil, and pharmorubicin were randomly divided into two groups:study group ( n = 40 ) and control group ( n = 41 ). In the study group, hirudoid was applied around the puncture point and along the direction of the vessel of 10 - 15cm, twice daily for three days after the start of chemotherapy. The control group received traditional therapy for phlebitis - wet dressing with 50% magnesium sulfate, twice daily for three days. Results The incidence of phlebitis was 22.50% in hirudoid group and 67.29% in magnesium sulfate group ( P< 0.05 ). The time of pain-relief and that of inflammation elimination were shorter in the study group than in the control group ( P < 0.05 ). Conclusions Topical hirudoid can effectively reduce the incidence rate of cyclophosphamide-, 5-fluorouracil-, and pharmorubicin-induced phlebitis, reduce the degree of phlebitis, and ensure the process of chemotherapy.
