Abstract

Dissolution process of hydrophobically associating polyacrylamide AP-P4 was divided into three mixing states (the start of AP-P4 just feeding, the end of swelling, the end of dissolution). The flow fields of the three states in the dissolution tank with Pitched blade XJD and the new hydrofoil impeller KCXU were numerically simulated respectively by using computational fluid danymics (CFD) method. The fluid velocities,circulation flow rates and shaft powers of the two impellers were investigated. The results show that, in three different states of AP-P4 dissolution process, the fluid velocities and the circulation flow rates in the stirred tank with KCXU are significantly greater than that in stirred tank with XJD, which indicates KCXU can increase the circulating rate. The deviations between the measured and the simulated shaft powers are within 16%. These results are of significance for the optimization of the industrial stirred tanks.
