Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To reduce the number of internal errors in prescription dispensing in outpatient western medicine pharmacy. METHODS: The quality control circle (QCC) activity was applied the in the quality management of prescription dispensing to reduce the number of internal errors in prescription dispensing. The causes and performance of the errors were analyzed. Appropriate countermeasures were set and enforced, and the outcome of the activity was evaluated. RESULTS: The QCC activity reduced the number of internal errors in prescription dispensing by up to 58% (145.6 pieces/week vs. 61 pieces/week). Clinical pharmacists were improved in respect of QCC recognition, team cohesiveness, learning initiative, sense of honor, etc. CONCLUSION: The practice of QCC activity may help reduce the number of internal errors in prescription dispensing, ensure safety and effectiveness of clinical drug use and improve the quality of pharmaceutical care.
