Effect of Pungent-hot Herb on Basal Metabolism and Endocrine System of Normal Rats

Abstract
Objective To observe the effects of pungent-hot herb decoction of Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, Cortex Cinnamomi Aconite and Rhizoma Zingiberis on basal metabolism and endocrine system of normal rats. Methods SD rats were divided into two groups. The control group was given 4 mL water and the experimental group was given 4 mL pungent-hot decoction by intragastric admirustration for consecutive 9 weeks. Blood was collected from abdominal vein after anesthetized by intraperitoneal injection of 2% pentobarbital sodium. Serum GLU, TG, TC, TP, ALB, LDH, LAC levels were detected by automatic biochemical analyzer, and serum E2, T, COR, T3, T4, TSH levels were determined by radio-immunity. Results Serum TG, TC, TP, LAC, LDH levels were significantly increased in experimental group, while COR, E2, T, T3 levels were significantly lowered. The other parameters were not changed significantly. Conclusion The basal metabolism rate was accelerated and the endocrine system was inhibited after given pungent-hot herb decoction for 9 weeks. These changes may be associated with expression characteristics of pungent-hot herbs, however, the specific mechanism needs further study.关键词
