摘要

Abstract

We reviewed the history and development of three widely used indices of water quality bioassessment with benthic macroinvertebrate:Saprobic Index, Biotic Index(BI) and Shannon-Wiener diversity index, and critically evaluated each of them according to their current applications in water quality and resource management. The Saprobic Index and Biotic Index were the key indices of national protocols of water quality bioassessment in EU member states and USA, however, no such indices were used in national protocol of water quality bioassessment in China. The present statues of studies on the BI in China were analyzed, and the achievements, gaps,perspective and research efforts in building up a national protocol of water quality bioassessment using BI were discussed. We suggested that the current key research points of BI were the calculation of tolerance value of benthos and BI criteria.
