Abstract
Objective To improve the understanding of radiological, pathological and immunohistochemical features of central neurocytomas (CNC). Methods A retrospective study of the radiological features of 10 central neurocytoma cases was performed. HE staining and Envision immunohistochemical staining were applied to study their histopathological features and characteristics of their immune-phenotypes. Results Tumors had a very close relationship with the septum pellueidum. Calcification and cystic changes were common. MRI showed beehive-like heterogenous signal intensity with patchy or strip enhancement. The morphology of central neurocytomas was quite similar to that of oligodendroglioma under light microscope. lmmunohistochemical analysis of 10 cases showed Syn( + )in 10 cases, NSE( + ) in 8 cases and GFAP( + ) in 7 cases. Conclusions Central neurocytomas are usually located in front of lateral ventricle or next to the interventricular foramen. They possess some typical features in MRI. After the diagnosis of central neurocytoma is considered neuroradiologically, immunohistochemistry should be performed. The neoplasm is potentially bi-directional and differentiated. The positive findings of markers Synaptophysin (Syn) and Neuronal Specific Enolase (NSE) in immunohistoehemical study are essential in the diagnosis of central neurocytoma.关键词
