Abstract
Objective To compare the perioperative efficacy between PFN internal fixation and hemiarthroplasty in treatment of intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients. Methods Clinical data of 258 patients with intertrochanteric fractures cases admitted from May 2004 to October 2010 were retrospectively reviewed. According to the health condition of patients, 177 cases were in good health (group A) and 81 case were in poor health (group B). Patients in both group were treated with internal fixation or hemiarthroplasty. The Operation time, the volume of blood loss and blood transfusion, postoperative complications in both group were reviewed and compared between two therapeutic modalities. Results There were no difference in complications between two modalities in group A; but the complication rate of hemiarthroplasty was higher than that of PFN internal fixation in group B. Conclusion The perioperative results of PFN fixation are the same as hemiarthroplasty in treatment of intertrochanteric fractures for elderly patients with good health conditions, but are better than those of hemiarthroplasty for patients with poor health conditions.关键词
