Abstract

The effect of phenol on the non-specific immune factors of Hybrid Tilapia (Tilapia nilotica× T. aurea) was studied by exposing the fish to five different concentrations of phenol (0.005, 0.025,0.125, 0.625, 3.125 mg/L) for 8 weeks. The results show that low concentration of phenol (0.005mg/L, 0.025 mg/L) has no significant effects on the non-specific immune factors of Hybrid Tilapia (P> 0.05), while the intermediate concentration (0.125, 0.625 mg/L) and the high concentration ofphenol (3.125 mg/L) to Hybrid Tilapia have a time and doses dependent trend, which can decreasethe quantity of NBT-positive cells and restrain the activity of SOD as well as that of the anti-bacterialvitality. Moreover, it can influence the bacteriolysis vitality and content of lysozyme and make themrise firstly and then drop remarkable(P< 0.05). The changeable of the above non-specific immuneindexes show that the intermediate and high concentrations of phenol have toxicity to the immunefunction of Hybrid Tilapia.
