Abstract

Based on a bifurcation diagram for the nonlinear system of a vehicle on tangent track and the dynamic performance of a vehicle on curved track, the bifurcation diagram of the hunting stability for the vehicle on curved track was put forward in this paper. According to this bifurcation diagram, the nonlinear critical speed of the wagon vehicle was calculated, and the effects of the curve radius and the superelevation of the outer rail on the nonlinear critical speed of the freight car were investigated. Results show that a hunting motion of the wagon vehicle will appear due to the larger equivalent conicity, the initial lateral displacement and the attack angle of wheelset. With the hunting motion appearing, the displacement and the lateral force of wheelset are changed sharply and periodically with a wave of 3.6 m. There is much difference in the bifurcation diagram between on curved track and on tangent track. With being related to the centerline of the track, each of vehicle body on curved track has two stable cycles. As for the curved track with a radius of 600 m and a superelevation of 55 mm, the nonlinear critical speed of the heavy-haul vehicle is 76.4 km · h-1 , which is lower than that on tangent track. It is noticeable that the curve radius and the superelevation of the outer rail have much influence on the critical speed, and the larger the parameters of the radius and the superelevation are, the higher the critical speed is, but the critical speed will no longer increase while these parameters reach at certain values.
