Abstract

In railway subgrade testing section with collapsible loess, the large in-situ immersion experimentation is used to study the immersion behavior of piles thrusted-expanded in column-hammer and compaction pile and the influence on subgrade settlement with collapsible foundation soil.The results indicate that the additional immersion settlement abrupt changes after 60 and 50 days immersion for piles thrusted-expanded in column-hammer and compaction pile foundation respectively, and the immersion angle is to achieve maximum after 19 days immersion.Therefore, water retention time should not exceed 19 days near the subgrade slope foot caused by rainfall or other reasons.The subgrade settlement of piles thrusted-expanded in column-hammer is 1.7 ~ 5.1 mm after 87 days immersion and the settlement for compaction pile is 26.2 ~ 51.3 mm.The total subgrade settlement is only 3.8 ~ 7.4 mm for piles thrusted-expanded in column-hammer after long duration immersion, and the subgrade settlement for compaction pile is as high as 62.3~ 103.1 mm.Therefore, in practical projects, the waterproof and drainage measures must be strengthened for compaction pile sections, local water should be avoided and the train operation safety can be guaranteed.The immersion angle for untreated collapsible loess foundation is 38°~42°, so recommendations that the long-term waterlogging facilities such as fishponds and pond etc.should be prohibited from the railway subgrade slope within a certain range in collapsible loess area.
