Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression levels of paxillin in gastric adenocarcinoma ( GAC ), preneoplastic changes and chronic superficial gastritis ( CSG ) tissues, and to study its possible roles in the carcinogenesis and metastasis of GAC.Methods The expression levels of paxillin in tissues of GAC ( 59 cases ), CSG ( 30 cases ) and preneoplastic lesions ( 80 cases ) were determined using S - P immunohistochemical techniques.The preneoplastic lesion group included chronic a-trophic gastritis ( CAG, 30 cases ), intestinal metaplasia ( IM, 30 cases ), and dysplasia ( Dys, 20 cases ).Results The expression levels of paxillin in CAG, IM, Dys and GAC tissues were significantly higher than those in CSG tissues, with the highest expression found in GAC tissues ( P ＜0.05 ).The expression levels of paxillin were positively correlated to severity of the gastric mucosal lesions ( rs =0.779, P =0.000 ).The expression levels of paxillin in tissues from patients with advanced GAG, lymph node metastasis, and moderately and poorly differentiated GAC were significantly higher than in those from patients in anearly GAG stage, with no lymph node metastasis, and with well - differentiated GAC (P＜0.05).Conclusion The up-regulation of paxillin expression is an important molecule event in the carcinogenesis and metastasis of gastric adenocarcinoma, the influence of which may emerge in the early stage of carcinogenesis and continue to the advanced stage.Our findings support the use of paxillin as a molecular index for prediction of lymph node metastasis.关键词
