Abstract
Objective To understand the prevalence of metabolic syndrome ( MS ) and its distribution in a certain suburban district of Shanghai.Methods Questionnaires, physical examinations and laboratory tests were performed by cluster sampling method.The MS diagnosis was according to the definitions of International Diabetes Federation ( IDF ) and Chinese Medical Association ( CDS ).The MS prevalence was observed.Results According to IDF criterion, the crude MS prevalence was 19.21％ , the standardized was 16.06％.The MS prevalence was higher in females than in males ( 18.39％ , 13.97％ , respectively, P ＜0.01 ).According CDS2004 diagnostic criterions, the crude MS prevalence was 20.35％ , the standardized was 16.64％ , no significant difference in prevalence between males and females ( P ＜ 0.05 ).Conclusion MS prevalence is relatively high in suburban residents in Shanghai.Priority should be given to community integrated control.关键词
