Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of five different surface treatments on the push-out test of fiber-reinforced composite posts. Method: Extracted teeth were endodontically treated,dowel space prepared, and divided into five groups: Group Ⅰ Silanization (3M ESPE RelyX Ceramic primer); Group Ⅱ iBond (Heraeus, Germany): Group Ⅲ Burnishing with sand paper; Group Ⅳ Etching with potassium permanganate: Group Ⅴ with no surface conditioning (control group),and 32 % phosphoric etching / RelyX Unicem, were used to cement posts. Then, the thin-slice push-out test was used to assess the adhesion of fiber posts after specimens indented as coronal, middle, and apical. Result: The method of sand paper burnishing and etching with potassium permanganate acquired ideal bond strength and had a significant influence on bond strength of fiber posts (P <0.05). For the variable "root region", the coronal resulted in statistically significant difference with middle and apical region (P <0.05). Conclusion: Post surface treatments are useful for improving push-out bond strength involving burnishing with sand paper and etching with potassium permanganate. Coronal root region comparatively has the highest bond strength.
