Abstract

In order to define the soil in Daming Mountains in Guangxi according to the Chinese Soil Taxonomy, the climate, plant and soil resources in Daming Mountains were investigated, and the physical and chemical properties of soils of 4 soil profiles in different elevation collected from the Mountain were studied. Based on the 3rd edition of Chinese Soil Taxonomy, the diagnostic horizons and diagnostic characteristics of the soil profiles as well as related taxonomic classification category were also defined. The results showed that the soil formation in Daming Mountains carried features as strong eluviations and ferritization. In the soils of horizons of the soil profiles, the base-saturation percentage was low, around 4.0% to48.7%, while the exchangeable aluminum saturation percentage was high, ranging from 73.8% to 98.6%, and the contents of free iron oxide were from 43.5% to 81.3%. The Sa values of B or E horizons in the soil profiles were 2. 18 - 2.79. There were three subgroups and two orders in Daming Mountains.
