Abstract

Influence of Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri bioturbation on phosphorus release from sediment in different Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri densities and different environments was studied in this paper. The results showed that bioturbation of Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri improved the phosphorus release from sediment obviously. Compared with control test before adding Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, when the Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri density was 1 ind./cm2 and 2 ind./cm2, the average concentration of total phosphorus in overlying water was improved by 190% and 230%, respectively. The increase of temperature would increase the effects of Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri bioturbation on phosphorus release. Compared with 5 ℃ the total phosphorus release increment increased by 90% and 225% , respectively when temperature was 15 ℃ and 25 ℃. In acidic and alkali environment, the bioturbation of Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri would be enhanced, which would has a positive effect on phosphorus release. When the pH was 5 and 9, the total phosphorus release increment increased 22% and 41%, respectively compared with pH 7. Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri had strong adaptability and survivability to anaerobic environment. In anaerobic environment, the bioturbation of Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri was improved and the total phosphorus release increment was twice than that in aerobic environment.
