摘要

Abstract

Various types of contact surfaces exist within an earth-rockfill dam; their study is a focus in the geotechnical field. In this work, a Particle Flow Code in 2 dimensions (PFC2D) is used to study the shear properties of these surfaces in combination with experimental results of laminar-ring simple shear test for two types of materials, mixed soil and filter material. Simulations show that PFC2D can well simulate the strength of these two materials and the distribution of horizontal displacement on contact surface. The micro analysis of computed data of contact force, coordinate number and porosity reveals the distribution and transmission of horizontal shear force and the dilatation and shrinkage of materials.
