Regulation of Dietary Energy on Onset of First Estrus in Replacement Gilts

Abstract
Nutritional status of gilts exerts a critical influence on reproductive function, onset of first estrus is closely related to dietary energy levels. The attainment of a minimum threshold for body fat is necessary for puberty onset. Efficiently satisfied dietary energy needs for replacement gilts through scientific nutritional regulatory measures is a basic factor to ensure normal onset of first estrus and breeding cycle. To provide some references for nutritional regulatory technologies of onset of first estrus for replacement gilts, the paper mainly reviewed the effects of dietary energy status on estrus of gilts and related mechanisms, through introducing the mechanisms of estrus and focusing on the regulation of dietary energy sources and levels.
