Information Extraction and Analysis of the Himalayan International Rivers
摘要
Abstract
The Himalayas possesses a number of large rivers, most of which are international ones, and thus initiates increasingly outstanding water contradictions among riparian states. Because of the rarely gauged condition and poor data sharing level, it's very difficult to obtain hydrological and water resources information of this region. Based on public global water resources data as well as social and economic data and ARCGIS as a technical tool, this paper calculates river length, basin area, annual precipitation, annual surface runoff, population, cultivated area and GDP of three large Himalayan international rivers, namely the Indus river, the Ganges river and the Yalu Tsangpo-Brahmaputra river as well as their international tributaries, and set up a Himalayan water resources information system. Analysis showes that surface runoff, population, cultivated area and GDP within the territory of China occupy a very small proportion in the three river systems. The natural surface runoff of the Indus river, the Ganges river and the Yalu Tsangpo-Brahmaputra river are 207 km3/y,550 km3/y and 828 km3/y respectively, and of which only 10 km3/y,14 km3/y and 121 km3/y is produced in china, account for 4. 83%,2.55% and 14.61%,respectively. For Ganges Delta drainage system, which includes Ganges river,Brahmaputra river and Megsba river, water from China makes up only 8.8% of the total natural runoff.关键词
