摘要

Abstract

Hepatic fibrogenesis coexists with pathological angiogenesis and vascular remodeling, constituting barriers to fibrosis regression and recovery. Angiogenesis has been emerging as a potential therapeutic target for liver fibrosis, and several antiangiogenic agents have indeed exhibited antifibrotic profiles in preclinical studies. Hepatic stellate cells as liver specific pericytes modulate multiple stages of liver pathological angiogenesis by expressing a number of proangiogenic cytokines including vascular endothelial growth factor, platelet-derived growth factor, leptin and angiopoietin-1. This review highlights the molecular mechanisms of fibrotic angiogenesis driven by stellate cells in the hope of providing new insight into hepatic fibrogenesis beneficial to the discovery of novel pharmacological targets.
