Abstract

The disadvantages of a compressor muffler are analyzed, and a new scheme is proposed based on the measured noise spectrum at the suction inlet of the compressor. By modifying its inner structure, the transmission loss of the new muffler at the peak frequencies of noise source is to be enhanced. The original and new mufflers are simulated by acoustic finite element method (FEM) to verify the transmission loss. Results of simulations show that the new muffler is effective at the peak frequencies of low-frequency noise source. Finally, the new muffler is tested in the compressor in order to verify its effect of noise reduction. The results show that the amplitude of noise peak at low frequency is reduced obviously and the overall noise level is reduced by 1.4dB (A).
