Antibody Responses Induced by Inactivated Whole-virion H5N1 Vaccine with Lycium barbarum Polysaccharide as an Adjuvant

Abstract
Humoral immune effects induced by inactivated whole-virion H5N1 vaccine adjuvanted with Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) were explored in BALB/c mice.Mice were intraperitoneally immunized with the whole-virion inactivated influenza virus A/Vietnam/1194/2004 ( H5N1 ) vaccine formulated with different dosages of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP).Three weeks after the immunization, mice were bled for detection of serum vaccine-specific antibody levels.Mice injected with aluminium hydroxide-adjuvanted inactivated vaccine were used as positive control.Results showed that serum specific antibody titers in mice were increased along with the increasing amount of LBP within a certain range.Compared with the non-adjuvanted vaccine, the vaccine adjuvanted with LBP at dosage of 800 μg significantly enhanced the antibody level.The adjuvant effect of LBP on humoral responses was comparable to that of aluminium hydroxide.LBP may be a potential adjuvant to inactivated influenza virus vaccines.关键词
