Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of magnesium isoglycyrrhizinAte (MI) on liver apoptosis and expression of bcl -2 during hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury(HIRI) in rats. Methods Forty SD rats were randomly divided into I/R group ( n = 20) and MI + I/R group ( n = 20). We detected the concentration of MDA and SOD at 1,3, 6, 24 h point after HIRI, and detected the liver apoptosis and the expression level of bcl -2 1 h after HIRI by TUNEL and Immunohistochemistry respectively. Results The concentration of MDA gradually increased in I/R group while gradually decreased in MI + I/R group(P <0.05 or P <0.01 ). The concentration of SOD increased gradually in both groups, and at 3 h and 4 h point, SOD in MI + I/R group was significantly higher than that in I/R group(P <0.01 ). The number of positive nucleus and the percentage of positive liver nucleus in I/R + MI group were significantly less than those in I/R group respeetively(P <0.01 ). The number of bcl - 2 protein positive liver cells and the percentage of bcl - 2 protein positive liver cells in MI + I/R group were significantly more than those of I/R group respectively (P < 0.01 ). Conclusion MI decreases liver apoptosis after HIRI by inhibiting the production of oxygenic free radicals and up - regulating the expression level of bcl -2. So MI has promising therapeutic effect on HIRI.
