Abstract

Microwave-enhanced Fenton oxidation was used to treat the pretreated mature landfill leachate. The treatment efficiency of landfill leachate and the mechanism of microwave irradiation were investigated. The results show that mature landfill leachate pretreated by anaerobic-aerobic processing is treated by microwave-enhanced Fenton oxidation, COD removal rate of which is more than 75.6 % under the optimal conditions. When the granular activated carbon (GAC) loaded with Fe2+ is used as catalyst, COD removal rate of mature landfill leachate is more than 87.1% under the optimal conditions. When the pretreated landfill leachate contains large amounts of SO42-, microwave radiation can make the treatment efficiency of Fenton oxidation decrease. Microwave-enhanced Fenton oxidation can only shorten treatment time but can not improve COD removal rate in this study. NH3-N removal rate can be increased with microwave radiation, which is not obvious.
