Study on Preparation and Tribological Properties of Y-Ce-ZrO2-TiC-Al203 Composite Ceramic Material

Abstract
In order to improve the mechanical properties, Y-Ce-ZrO2-TiC-Al2O3 composite ceramic material stabilized with the mixture of rare earth oxides was prepared by vacuum hot pressing technique. Friction and wear properties of the ZrO2 based composite ceramic material were investigated. Morphologies of the worn surfaces were observed by SEM and phase analysis was carried out by XRD. Wear mechanisms of the composite ceramic material were analyzed comparing with that of single phase ZrO2 ceramic. The results indicated that the developed composite ceramic material has higher mechanical properties. Under the normal load of 140 N and the rotational speed of 200 r/min, the coefficient of friction and wear rate of Y-Ce-ZrO2-TiC-Al2O3 composite ceramic material were 0.65 and 2.88 × 10-7 mm3/N · m, respectively, which were obviously lower than that of single-phase ZrO2 ceramic. Wear mechanisms of the composite ceramic material were mechanically cold welding and adhesive wear.关键词
