摘要

Abstract

To distinguish the criteria for contact scour in cohesionless layered soil and to determine the relevant hydraulic gradients are necessary elements for studying seepage control measures. It is a common concern in the engineering field. Based on the experimental data, the geometrical and hydraulic conditions for the generation of contact scour in cohesionless layered soil were illustrated. A functional relationship between the critical hydraulic gradient for the contact scour and characteristic grain size of two soil layers was established. It could be employed to determine whether the contact scour in the two cohesionless soil layers would happen or not. If the potential contact scour was distinguished, the corresponding hydraulic gradient would be calculated. It would be practical for the seepage control of civil structures.
