Abstract

Based on studies on the width of waterway regulation lines downstream the Three Gorges Reservoir and combined with the water and sediment characteristics in the middle reaches of Yangtze River, various factors for the width of waterway regulation lines in the middle reaches of Yangtze River were analyzed. The ratio of the width of waterway regulation line to the river width could be expressed as the exponential form of the ratio of the water depths before and after regulation. The experimental data of Zhoutian reach in the middle reaches of Yangtze River were employed to determine the exponential value. Accordingly, a formula for the width of waterway regulation lines was derived. It was applied to the calculation of the width of waterway regulation lines for Zhoutian reach, Yaojian reach and Guniusha reach. The calculated results show that the proposed formula can be used to calculate the width of waterway regulation lines in the middle reaches of Yangtze River after the operation of Three Gorges Reservoir.
