Abstract
Objective To explore the meanings and causes of stigma through interpretation of stories of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and to provide a preliminary theoretical basis for the future implementation of interventions. Methods Fourteen patients with pnlmonary tuberculosis were selected for in-depth interviews from June to August 2010. The data was analyzed with hermeneutics method. Results The stigma experienced by patients with pulmonary tuberculosis was a dynamic process which could be demonstrated by two themes: alienation and withdrawal. Conclusion Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis may perceive strong stigma feelings. It is crucial that healthcare workers should not only help them alleviate the symptoms but also overcome the stigma experiences.关键词
