Abstract
Objective: To develop a measure of working alliance in the context of Chinese culture. Methods: Based on Bordin's theory and the results of qualitative research, three components were proposed as the dimensions of the measure to develop, bond, goal-task, and engagement. After 3 pilot studies, 469 clients from 5 university counseling centers were divided into 2 samples, with one to develop and the other to confirm the instrument. Results: EFA indicated that 60% of the total variance was explained by the 3 factors. The results of CFA and the test of the measurement invariance confirmed the structure of the measure. Dimensions were correlated with each other moderately and the Cronbach's α coefficients for each dimension were above 0.70. The new measure had a strong correlation with WAI-SR (r=0.86) and predicted the outcome significanfiy. Conclusion: The Working Alliance Questionnaire (WAQ) is a reliable and valid measure.关键词
