Effects of electric-acupuncture and fluoxetine on depression and neurological function of post-stroke depression patients

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects of electric-acupuncture and fluoxetine on depression and neurological function of post-stroke depression (PSD) patients. Methods A total of 95 patients with PSD were randomly divided into the group A, B and C, they were treated with electric-acupuncture, medicine, and electric-acupuncture combined with medicine respectively. The degree of depression and neurological function defect, side-effects were evaluated by hamilton depression scale (HAMD), the clinical neurological function defect scale and the treatment emergent symptom scale (TESS) before and after treatment. Results After treatment for 6 weeks, HAMD scores, the clinical neurological function defect scale and TESS scores were significanfly different in 3 groups ( P ＜ 0.05 ), which in the group C was much better than those in group A and B (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion Electric-acupuncture combined with fluoxetine could regulate depression and improve neurological function and reduce side effects of medicine in treating PSD patients. It is deserved to be applied to clinical use.关键词
