Abstract

To investigate the irrigation management practices with saline for spring corn, an experiment was conducted in the Yellow River Irrigation District of Ningxia in 2007. The SWAP model was calibrated and validated with the collected experimental data, and the model was applied to evaluate the saline water irrigation scheduling for the experimental year and different hydrological years. Results indicate that the simulated soil water content, salt concentration and crop growth indices are in consistence with the meas-ured data. These imply that the model has been well calibrated and validated, and the model can be used as a management tool to evaluate the effects of various irrigation management practices on water and solute dynamics and crop yield. The simulated results indicate that the optimal irrigation practices of spring corn for the hydrologic years of 50% and 25% are two blending irrigations each for jointing and tasselling stages with total irrigation amount of 1500 m~3/hm~2 and 1200 m~3/hm~2, respectively. And for the hydrologic year of 75%, application of three blending irrigations each for jointing, tasselling and filling stages with total a-mount of 2400 m~3/hm~2 is the optimal saline water irrigation practice for spring corn.
