Correlation of concentration of nitric oxide in male semen with male infertility

Abstract
Objective:To explore correlation of concentration of nitric oxide (NO) with sperm apoptosis rate as well as male infertility. Methods:Semen routine examination was done by sperm quality detection system; and NO concentration was tested by nitric oxide reductase. Apoptosis of sperm was examined by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated de-oxyuridine triphophate-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL). The ultrastructure of apoptotic sperm was observed under an e-lectron microscope. Results:The NO concentration in semen was (58. 37±14.14)μmol/l in the male infertility group and (35. 20±8. 23)μmol/l in the control group. The apoptosis rate of sperm was (9. 67±2. 54)% in the control group, while that of the male infertile group was (33. 98±10. 54)%. The NO concentration and the apoptosis rate of sperm in the male infertile group was higher than that in the control group (P<0. 05). Conclusion:Abnormal high level of NO in semen causes the increasing rate of sperm apoptosis, which may be related to male inferticity.关键词
