Abstract

The fruit samples of carambola cultivar 'Xiangmi' (Averrhoa carambola 'Xiangmi') were collected from the carambola orchards locating at different sites and different slope positions in Sanya City and Wuzhishan City in July,2009. The total soluble solids(TSS) content of different parts of the fruit and the whole fruit were determined. The results showed that the TSS content at the bottom,middle and top of the same fruit were highly significantly different,but the difference between the top and the whole fruit was not significant. The TSS content was the highest at the bottom,followed by at the middle,and the lowest at the top. And the TSS content in different ridges was not significantly different,the same as at the middle of different ridges. A highly significant correlation between the TSS content in the middle and the whole fruits was observed by using the linear regression method. It was suggested that the TSS content of fruits could be reflected by that in the middle. The TSS content was the maximum at the bottom of the fruit,followed by at the middle and then at the top under different climatic conditions and cultivation measures.
