Abstract

Abstract Two maize cultivars'Yedan-13' and 'Danyu-13' were grown in a field trial to determine their contents of trace elements Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Na in the primary and secondary roots from the first to ninth layers. The results showed that the contents of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and Na averaged 6 469, 185, 22, 14, 884 mg·kg~(-1) in the roots. The primary roots in the maize cultivars contained lower Fe element than the secondary roots but higher Mn, Cu, Zn and Na. The contents of elements in roots of different types varied in the same cultivar, and there was a correlation between the contents of elements in the same layer of roots in different cultivars.
