Firm's Green Management Strategy from Institutional and Technical Perspectives

Abstract
Institution and technology were analyzed in two separate realms in prior green management research, ignoring the facts that firm's green practices are reactions to both institutional and technical pressures, which co-existed and even interplayed. Considering the positive externality related to technical innovation and the negative externality of environmental impacts, an integration of environmental institution, environmental technology innovation and their interaction is of great importance when analyzing firm' s green management activities. Prior literature generally highlighted the driving forces of coercive institutions such as environmental regulations, but paid little attention on the interaction of institutional pressure and technology innovation. By exploring the interrelated institutional and technical pressures, this article developed a preliminary green management strategy model based on institutional and technical context. We conclude that firm's green strategy is the result of an interaction between factors involving institutional pressure and environmental technology. Firm' s responses to institutional pressure can lead to increased technical efficiency; meanwhile the institutional context may have influence on the way they respond to technical pressure. Some policy recommendations were put forward to facilitate clean technology adoption and diffusion in China regarding current environmental regulation framework.关键词
