Observation of ciliary detachment after laser photocoagulation for diabetic retinopathy by UBM

Abstract
Objective To investigate the tomographic changes of ciliary body after retinal photocoagulation for diabetic retinopathy. Methods Twenty-six( 29 eyes )patients suffered from preproliferative and early proliferative diabetic retinopathy diagnosed by fundus examination and FFA were treated with panretinal photocoagulation. In the first session, the inferior quadrant of the fundus was treated with laser photocoagulation. Laser parameters : 400 ~ 450 burns of 250 ~300 μm spot size on the retina of standard grade Ⅲ intensity. The eyes were examined by UBM before , two days after the first session of photocoagulation to observe and analyze the changes in the ciliary body. Results Two days after retinal photocoagulation, ciliary detachment was found to he present in 21 eyes ( 72. 4%). The whole circumference of the ciliary body was detached in 170f the 21 eyes ( 80. 9% ). The detachment was confined to several quadrants of the pars plana in four eyes ( 19. 1% ). Conclusion Ciliary detachment is a very frequent feature after sector photocoagulation in diabetic eyes. It is temporary and usually do not result in untoward complications.关键词
