Abstract
Purpose To explore the pathological morphology criteria for the diagnosis and differential diagnoses of cranial meningoceles.Methods Clinic data of 15 patients with cranial meningoceles were analyzed, retrospectively.The morphological features were ohserved by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry.Results The patients ' age ranged from 3 days to 3 years, among them 11 boys and 4 girls.Ten cases were occipital and five cases were parietal.The pathological morphology characteristics were diminished or absent dermal appendages of the skin in the central area overlying the lesion.increased hlood vessels in the dermis.The poorly circumscribed lesions showed hyperplasia of the fibrocollagenous tissue with mucinous degeneration to a greater or less extent.Plexus of sinusoidal spaces, lining with flat or atypical elliptical cells , were observed in all cases.Bizarre cells and nuclear hyperchromasia multinucleated cells were observed in 8 cases.The flat or atypical elliptical cells lining the sinusoidal spaces were positive for EMA, vimentin,D2-40 , SMA, and negative for CD31.Bizarre cells and multinucleated cells were positive for vimentin and SMA.Conclusion Plexus of sinusoidal space, with the lining cells demonstrating meningothelial features, is the hallmark structures for the diagnosis of cranial meningoceles.Bizarre cells and multinucleated cells are probably degenerative myofihroblasts in nature.It is important to be familiar with the morphological features of cranial meningoceles for the pathology diagnosis and differential diagnosis.关键词
